Great Ayton

Pretty village a short drive away.  Visit the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum.  

Take the train from Great Ayton to Whitby, through the beautiful Esk valley.  Steam train enthusiasts can change at Grosmont and hop on the North Yorkshire steam train, which travels to Pickering passing through Goathland station (Aidensfield station in Heartbeat).

 

 

Osmotherley & Mount Grace Priory

The lovely village of Osmotherley is only a short drive away.  Situated on the  edge of the North Yorkshire Moors it is very popular with walkers and well worth visiting.. 

 

Mount Grace Priory - One of a the best preserved Carthusian monastery in England. It is the only one in Yorkshire and is a only few miles away.

Yarm  

This Georgian market town is worth visiting, with an excellent selection of small stylish shops, coffee shops, restaurants and pubs.  Yarm is a hive of activity by night as well as day.  

 

Stokesley 

The market town of Stokesley, has interesting Georgian and Regency buildings.  The town has some interesting small shops, a good choice of pubs and restaurants.  Weekly Friday market.   

 

Whitby & Staithes

Whitby - A great day out.  Travel by train (see Great Ayton).  www.whitbytourism.com

Staithes is a very pretty coastal village 10 miles north of Whitby, well worth a visit.  

 

 

York

 

York minster, the Jorvik Centre, National Railway Museum, Castle Museum, to name a few of the many attractions in York

 

Guided walks, boat trips down the river Ouse, open top bus tours, are also on offer. 

 

Less than one hours drive away or 35minutes by train from Yarm station, great for a family day out.
